Material: 넝 라 Nón lá(베트남 전통 모자)

  베트남 사람들의 삶을 상징하는 전통 모자 ‘넝 라(Nón lá)’를 겹겹이 이어 만든 베트남 국가 모양의 오브제 위에 다양한 질감과 색을 가진 빛이 만나고 생성과 소멸을 반복하며 계속 이어진다. 수많은 전쟁을 겪은 이후에 급속도의 경제 성장을 이루고 있는 베트남이 고유의 전통과 아름다움, 그 안에 살아가는 ‘사람’을 잊지 않고 함께 새로운 미래로 나아가길 바라는 응원을 담은 작품이다.

  겉으로 보기엔 특별할 것 없어 보이는 모자들. 작가는 모자 위에 빛을 두드려 베트남의 이야기를 그려낸다. 고대 베트남에 꽃 피운 ’동선문화(Dongson culture)’의 중심지인 '홍강(The Red River)'. 홍강을 상징하는 빨간 물결이 퍼져나가며, 동선문화의 상징인 청동북으로 가득 채워진다. 청동북은 천 년 동안 이어진 중국의 식민지배 아래에서도 지켜낸 동선문화의 상징이며, 한 때 중국문화로 여겨질 뻔했던 베트남 고대 문화의 자주성을 증명해 준 베트남의 자주적 문화와 역사의 상징이다.

  이 후 베트남이 겪어온 다사다난한 역사를 상징하듯, 다른 색과 모양을 가진 것들이 외부에서 끊임없이 조여 오며 경계를 만들어내지만 끝내 빛은 꺼지지 않고 연꽃을 피워낸다. 흙탕물 속에서도 아름다운 꽃을 피워내는 연꽃은 베트남 사람을 상징하는 꽃이다. 이는 수 많은 전쟁과 이념 다툼으로 상처입은 베트남이 꿋꿋이 자신들의 전통을 지키고 계속 이어나가는 것을 뜻한다. 결국 연꽃과 함께 다양한 꽃이 피어나는 모습을 통해 다양한 국가와 문화의 사람들과 함께 어우러져 미래로 나아가고 있는 지금의 베트남을 보여준다.

Material: Nón lá(Vietnamese Traditional Hat)

  The traditional hat ‘Nón lá’ symbolize the lives of Vietnamese people. On top of the Vietnamese map-shaped object, which is made of layers of Nón lá, a light with the story of Vietnam is drawn. There are many symbols of Vietnam. The symbols tell you about history and beauty of Vietnamese cultures, which has been continued after numerous wars and rapid economic growth. Also, they describe the hope that Vietnam moves forward to new future without forgetting the "people" who live in it.

  There are hats that look nothing special. But the story of Vietnam begins by tapping with light on the hat. 'The Red River' is the center of the 'Dongson Culture' that bloomed in ancient Vietnam. After a red wave representing the Red River spreads, it is filled with bronze drums, a symbol of Dongson culture. The bronze drum is a symbol of Dongson culture, which was preserved even under the colonial rule of China for a thousand years. Also, it is a symbol of Vietnam’s independent culture and history, which proved the independence of the ancient culture of Vietnam, which was once mistaken for Chinese culture.

  As if to symbolize a difficult history of Vietnam, things with different colors and shapes are constantly tightening in from the outside, creating a boundary, but the light never goes out and the lotus flowers bloom finally. The lotus flower, which makes beautiful flowers even in dirty water, is a symbol of Vietnamese people. This means the spirit of Vietnam, which has been hurt by countless wars and ideological battles, continues to preserve its traditions and beauty. Eventually, a various flowers bloom with lotus flowers. It shows the present Vietnam, which is moving into the new future with people from various countries and cultures.
