  수창청춘맨숀과 자개 가구의 평행이론 같은 운명을 발견한 작가는 그들을 한 공간에 놓고 그들의 이야기를 통해 관객에게 위로와 응원의 빛을 보내고 싶었다. 누군가에게 꿈이자 전부였을 공간, 그러나 20년 동안 아무도 찾지 않은 채 버려졌던 아파트. 한 때 중산층의 상징으로 사랑받았던, 그러나 언제부턴가 처치곤란한 애물단지 취급을 받던 자개 가구.

  아이러니하게도 베이비부머 세대에게 오래되고 촌스러워 잊혀진 그들은 밀레니얼 세대에게 ‘힙함’으로 불리며 열렬한 관심을 모으는 중이다. 그들이 다시 사랑받는 이유는 옛것을 단순히 복원하고 유지했기 때문이 아니다. 그들만이 가진 스토리와 매력에 관심을 가지고 지켜본 이들에 의해 새로운 시각으로 재해석, 재창조되어 고유한 가치를 발견해냈기 때문이다. 그들은 언제나 그 자리에 그 모습으로 있었다. 변한 건 그들을 바라보는 우리의 시각이다.

  자개 거울을 통해 보이는 당신의 모습은 어떠한가. 당신은 자신의 진정한 가치를 알아보고 있는가? 어떤 모습을 내보이고 어떤 모습을 깊이 숨겨두고 있는가. 그것은 진짜 당신이 원하는 모습인가? 내 꿈은 나의 꿈인가, 남이 심어준 꿈인가. 지금 나의 모습, 내 꿈이 지치고 빛 바래 보일지라도 나의 진정한 모습을 끊임없이 궁금해하고 관심을 가져보자. 진짜 나의 모습, 나의 가치를 재발견해 내는 순간, 당신은 그 어느 때 보다 찬란히 빛나게 될 것이다. 지금 이 순간, 저들이 보내는 공감과 응원의 빛 속에서 내 안에 아직 발견하지 못한 새로운 나를 찾아보는 시간이 되기를 바란다.

[Ah, popped] Daegu Urban Regeneration Art Project

  Having found a fate like the parallel theory between Suchang Youth Mansion and Korean traditional Mother-of-Pearl Furniture, I wanted to put them in a space together and send a light of consolation and support to the audience through their stories. Both of them were symbol of new-rich class in Korea 40-50 years ago.An apartment that would have been a dream for someone, but one that had been abandoned for 20 years. A traditional furniture once loved as a symbol of wealth, but one day it was ignored because it’s not trendy anymore.

  Ironically, they are loved now by today's Korean youth, called “Hip”, after being forgotten by their parents' generation due to old and rustic. The reason they are loved again is not simply because they are restored and recreated the old. They are reinterpreted and rediscovered their unique values by people who kept watching their own stories and charms with interests. They were always there in that way.

  What has changed is our view of them. Who do you see through the mirror? Are you recognizing your true worth? What are you showing and hiding? Is that what you really want? Is your dream what you wanted, or did someone else give it to you? Even if my present self and dream seems insignificant, let's constantly wonder and care about my true self. The moment you rediscover the true value of yourself, you will shine out more than ever. At this moment, in this light, I hope it will be a time to meet yourself that have not found yet in you.
